The kitchen sink. It is easily one of the most used appliances in your home. Which means it’s all the more important that you have a quality device that will last you years and years without any trouble. Some facts about your sink and faucet that you may not have known:
- The average family turns on the tap more than 40 times per day.
- A kitchen sink can put you back anywhere between $15 and $2,500. The average, however, is right around $200.
- There are a multitude of choices on the market these days, but all sinks contain the same basic parts:
- Aerator
- Spout
- Handle
- Valve controls
- Body
- Supply
- A good sink and faucet should last you at least a decade. Lower-end models can conk out after just 5 years or so.
- Your decisions to make when picking a new sink/faucet are many – size, material, valves, spouts and mounts.
- If you can, shop in person. You want to get a feel for your appliance. Also be sure to measure it…is it high enough for your largest pot to fit in/under?
- Brass is the most popular material. Stainless steel is also popular – though not to be confused with a stainless steel finish over a brass base. Steel is quite a bit more expensive, but will also last you a lifetime if taken care of.
